I am a social media consultant and a public relations and marketing professional with more than 20 years of experience. I am constantly on the lookout for the next big thing, and how I can apply emerging strategies and techniques to help our clients achieve their goals.
In 1999, I co-founded a successful web design firm, carbonhouse. I left the firm in 2008 to consult in the growing area of social media marketing as founder and president of Web Business Freedom, Inc. In March 2011, I co-founded Command Partners.
I'm a big believer in the power of public relations to drive awareness, build brands and form strong bonds between companies and consumers. I earned the Accreditation in Public Relations (APR) designation from Public Relations Society of America and served as president of the PRSA Charlotte chapter (www.prsacharlotte.com) in 2009 after many years of service in supporting roles.
I came to PR by way of journalism. I'm a proud graduate of the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at UNC-Chapel Hill, one of the leading programs in the U.S. To complement my degree, I worked in the news departments at local radio stations in both Chapel Hill and nearby Raleigh, NC, as well as interning at a top Charlotte ad agency.
I began my formal career in New York with the public relations firm Blacker/Hunter, which specialized in media relations for publishing companies and other businesses. The fast pace and unrelenting pressure of New York forged discipline and a sixth sense of what makes public relations programs work.
Since returning to my hometown of Charlotte in 1990, I have honed my skills as a communicator while giving back to the community. It's been a thrill to be part of two major revolutions—the web and now social media—and I can't wait to see what's next.
